  Speaker:  Brian Stevens, DVM, DVSc, DACVP - Wildlife pathologist, University of Guelph

  Brian Stevens is a wildlife pathologist for the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative Ontario/Nunavut region, which is based out of the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. Brian has been working as a veterinary pathologist for the past decade and began his career at the University of New Hampshire where he worked on wildlife projects involving disease investigation in Canada lynx, mortality of moose in New England, and mass mortality events involving Northern gannets.

  Have you been interested in learning how to add healthy plant based dishes to your meals?  If so, you will want to attend a cooking demonstration with Bailey Franklyn, registered dietician and owner of Harvest Table Nutrition. 

  In this unique and fun two hour class, Bailey will prepare a soup, grain and main dish (mild curry).  Participants will be provided the recipes.  After the food is prepared, you will enjoy the meal. There is a maximum of 15 members for this cooking class.  The class will be held at a member's residence in Craigleith.  

  The cost of the class is $57 per member and is to be held on Wednesday, March 19th from 3 pm to 5 pm.  Online registration and payment will open on February 19th. If the event is full, please JOIN the WAITLIST.

  "Wine Wednesdays"  feature at Lakeside include half priced bottles of selected red & white wines.  
  Choose from the special "Canadalicious" menu which offers a three course menu with an appetizer, main and dessert for $45 per person.  Taxes, gratuity and beverages are extra and are paid with the meal directly at the restaurant.  
  Appetizer- choose from Seafood chowder, Georgian Bay Gin & Tarragon East Coast Salmon Graviax or Cranberry Kale Salad.

  Speaker:  David T. Chapman

  

  David started doing photography at the age of 16. He is self-taught in the art of photography and has been pursuing his career professionally since the age of eighteen. He learned at a very young age from his father to appreciate his environment in the surrounding countryside. He enjoys taking photographs of weather phenomena, especially lightning, as well as scenery and nature. David likes to seek out unusual examples of nature such as albino robins, ice crystal formations and both inferior and superior mirages. To date he has found multi-petalled Ontario trilliums, the highest of which had 33 petals. 

  David is also a professional speaker and enjoys entertaining and educating a good crowd. His main areas of expertise are Weather/Aurora Borealis, Local Interests and Ontario Scenery of Ontario, Birds and Wildlife

  Wild, Weird and Wacky Weather

  In a province that is so vast and surrounded by the Great Lakes, it is no wonder we have some of the most interesting weather in the world. It offers such a variety all year round because of its terrain, temperature variations and location. Learn about Fallstreak Holes, Superior Mirages and discover how far south the Aurora Borealis can actually be seen.   On Thursday, April 24th at 2 p.m., Theatre Collingwood presents "The Shipyard Kitchen Party" performing "The Newfoundland Songbook", the colourful history of Newfoundland's fishers and loggers, sealers and whalers told with a story. 

  From the remote outports to the vibrant city of St. John's, from the fishing stages to the kitchens and front parlours, you will hear the timeless sea-shanties, triumphant ballads and the hilarious foot-thumping sing-a-longs that make Canada's 10th province it's most legendary. 

  There are evening shows available on Wed. April 23rd, Thurs. April 24th, or Fri. April 25th.  If you would prefer an evening show please contact the organizer.

  In this Theatre Collingwood presentation, you will revisit your childhood with the iconic music of Alan Menken, the master songwriter of Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas and the Little Shop of Horrors.  Discover how one man's music gave us a whole new world of animated characters, stories and classic films.  

  Conceived and directed by Adrian Marchuk.

• Humanizing the Homeless Through Photographs

  Speaker:  Leah den Bok, Photographer/Artist

  Leah den Bok is an acclaimed fashion and portrait photographer who dedicated herself to capturing the stories and images of people experiencing homelessness. Since 2015, she has travelled to major cities worldwide, including Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles, to document the struggles of those affected by homelessness for her project, Humanizing The Homeless. Through her work, Leah aims to humanize and raise awareness of homelessness.

  Her powerful images and stories have been compiled in a book series titled "Nowhere to Call Home--Photographs and Stories of People Experiencing Homelessness," She donates 100% of her profits from her books and exhibits to local homeless shelters.

  Leah's work has garnered worldwide attention and featured in major media outlets such as the BBC, CBS, and Vogue Italia. She has also exhibited and spoken at prominent events such as ARTWALK New York 2017, the Women of the World 2018 festival in Brisbane, and the She Talks events in Ontario.

  Enjoy a 2.5hr boat cruise on Friday June 13th onboard the Huronic on beautiful Georgian Bay while listening and dancing to local band Not-Ottawa. The boat departs from Collingwood Harbour (Shipyards) and cruises to the Lighthouse and back. Watch the sun set beyond the vast escarpment. Drinks are available for purchase onboard.

  Speaker:  Judge Norman Douglas

  Norm Douglas was born in Hawk Junction, Ontario, and grew up in Sault Ste. Marie. He earned his BA and LLB degrees from Queen’s University. In 1973, immediately after completing the Bar Admissions, Norm was appointed Assistant Crown Attorney back in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, and he became the Crown Attorney in 1980. In 1992, he moved to Toronto to take up the position of Senior Counsel and then Director of Criminal Prosecutions for Ontario, and two years later, after a twenty-one-year career as a Crown Counsel, he was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice to preside as a criminal court judge in Brampton, Ontario.

  On his seventy-fifth birthday, after twenty-seven-and-a-half years on the bench, Norm retired from his position. Rewarding as his time as a Crown Attorney and judge were, the best job he has ever had is what he does now – being “Grampa Buck” to his eleven grandchildren.

She, on the other hand, knows absolutely everything about him! He makes it his mission to learn all he can about her in a most engaging conversation. With revelations that are surprising, funny and extremely moving, this is a love story, a social commentary and a mystery wrapped in witty dialogue and vivid imagery.

  Save the Date!

  Join fellow Probus club members on a trip to Muskoka on Thursday July 10th. Start with a tour and lunch at the Canadian Race Boat Hall of Fame and Museum followed by a Boat Cruise from Port Carling on The Peerless II with commentary by Captain Randy Potts cruising both Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph.  Optional extension - stay overnight at Windermere House.

  Arrive at the spectacular Canadian Race Boat Hall of Fame and Museum located at 1512 Muskoka District Road 118 West Bracebridge at 11am. Start your day by touring the museum followed by a catered lunch. The caterer is well-known for their delicious sandwiches and salads etc. Lunch includes sandwiches, salads, dessert, coffee/tea. Sandwich platters will include an assortment of classic corn beef, classic pastrami, classic smoked meat, Reuben, roast beef, veggie, and honey ham. Choice of 2 salads: pesto quinoa with feta cheese, mixed greens, Caesar salad, Greek salad and an assortment of squares for dessert. Then drive to Port Carling and board The Peerless II. The boat departs from Port Carling (100 Joseph St) at 2pm sharp and returns at 5pm. Event runs rain or shine. Then drive to Windermere House for your overnight stay.

  Costs: Boat Museum and catered lunch $55. Boat Cruise $65. Windermere House hotel room prices: Gardenview $349, Lakeview no balcony $449, Lakeview with balcony $469. Room rates include hot breakfast buffet (eggs, bacon, sausage, homefries, french toast, assorted pastries, cold cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt. Taxes are extra. Amenities include hot tub, pool, canoes, kayaks, tennis, pickleball, fitness room, saunas and firepits. 15 rooms are being held for our group.

  In a few months, it will be time to break out the golf clubs and tune up for the annual Gateway Cup Golf Tournament on Thursday, July 17th at Shelburne Golf Club. The cost is approximately $90.00 which includes 9 hole best ball, cart, lunch and prizes. Lunch is either a hamburger (meat, chicken or veggie) with salad bar.

  SAVE THE DATE for this unique and fun event. On Wednesday, September 24th join in an interactive murder mystery theatre luncheon. 

  The murder mystery theatre will be performed by an acting group from Niagara Falls called Murders Tastefully Executed. 

  Lunch will be catered by the UCW at Trinity Church.  It will include salads, rolls, ham and potatoes and dessert including apple crisp and ice cream.  Drinks will include punch, water, tea and coffee. 

  The approximate cost of this event will be $50 and 70 people will be able to attend.  Guests are welcome.

  Bus trip to Stratford to see the matinee of the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Avon Theatre on Tuesday, October 7th.  Cost is $117 for the bus trip, snacks and the musical tickets.  Lunch will be arranged but will be paid as an extra on an individual basis.
