We enjoyed our unique visit to the Observatory so much that we have scheduled a second opportunity.
Join us for an evening under the stars! The visit will start with a presentation given by an on-site supervisor. After dark, we will be able to look through the mini telescope for views of the moon, planets, double-stars and more. There may be members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada present with their telescopes as well and we may be able to look at several other objects of interest. The dates were chosen with an almost full moon and bright stars or planets to be seen.
Please note that this location is in the countryside and you will need to travel on mostly unlit country roads to get there and home. A detailed map will be provided. You may leave at dusk before it gets dark; however, the best viewing is with dark skies. You may walk short distances across a field in the dark to look through telescopes.
Scheduling flexibility is required as we need to have clear skies for best viewing. We will need to monitor the weather closely before confirming the exact evening. If you register for this event, you will need to be available on the evenings of Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15. The event will only take place on one of these evenings.
On Wed., Aug 14th around mid day, the Observatory staff will check the weather forecast and decide whether to proceed that evening, or postpone to Thurs., Aug 15th. If Thursday, Aug. 15 is cloudy, we will still proceed and do a tour of the facilities and observe whatever we can. You will be emailed on the day of the event to confirm the "go ahead" or "no go" for that day.
The cost for this event is $17.00. 25 members are able to attend. Registration opens July 26th and ends August 10th.
Please join the waitlist if the event is full as there is the possibility of last minute cancellations.
