We invite you to join us for a fun day of golf at the Gateway Cup Golf Tournament on Thursday, July 16. Once again it will be a best ball 9 holes at the Shelburne Golf Club.

Registration 7:45 to 8:45 am (coffee and muffins)

Shotgun start: 9:00 am

Burger (meat, chicken or veggie) and salad bar lunch

Cost: $95.00 includes 9 hole best ball format, cart, lunch and prizes

Register in person at the May or June PROBUS meeting as Chuck will be at the back of the room to do sign ups and answer any questions. Payment will be by cheque payable to PROBUS Club of the Gateway.

Chuck and Stephen are busy collecting prizes for what it looks to be a great prize table.

Hope Haven Therapeutic Riding Centre

Speaker: Robyn Allen, Executive Director of Hope Haven Therapeutic Riding Centre.

With a background in kinesiology, physiotherapy, and equestrian sport, she first became involved with Hope Haven as a volunteer before joining the organization full-time. She is also a certified National and FEI Para Equestrian Classifier and is passionate about the life-changing impact of horses for individuals of all abilities.

PRESENTATION SUMMARY:

Join us at the Duntroon Organic Cydery and Farm for a unique tasting and lunch experience. Rooted in the rolling hills of Clearview Township, this 108 acre family farm offers a unique outdoor area to host guests for cider tastings, events and delectable food offerings. You will arrive at a large grass area with a variety of outdoor seating some of which are covered with umbrellas.

Date: Thursday, July 23 from noon until 3 pm.

Rain out Date: Friday, July 24 (only in severe weather)

Cost: $ 51.75 (including tax and gratuity)

Cider tasting, lunch and an optional tour of the farm includes:

-A freshly prepared grilled organic chicken, pesto and brie sandwich on homemade bread or panini accompanied by mixed salad greens and tomatoes freshly picked that day. There will also be a freshly made dessert treat.

-4 cider tastings (including organic and no sugar added)

-beer option: 1 beer in lieu of cider (select this option when registering)

-vegetarian option will be available (email the organizer in advance)

Optional: tour to the farm area (outdoors)

The ties that bind – and sometimes choke – are explored with uproarious results in this heartwarming comedy about growing up and growing old. The generation gap is affectionately portrayed through the eyes of four Italian American immigrants who reside over the life of their grandson, Nick Cristano, with loving manipulation. When Nick decides to cut his family ties and move away to pursue his career, the aging grandparents hatch an offbeat scheme to stop their beloved grandson from leaving – with side-splitting results.

A fun-filled journey with hilarious twists leads Nick to the realization that his grandparents have much more to dish out, in the way of advice, than hearty meals. Family is truly the centre – the very heart of life – and this memorable production will speak to all generations of theatregoers.

The show is Thursday July 30th at 2pm. Registration opens Mar 1 with payment by credit card, $56 per ticket. 42 tickets are available.

Seats are located in the center of the theatre, close to the front, 4 seats are in the first row for those with mobility issues.

Joan is a former teacher, nurse and Ortho Tech. and now is loving the lecture circuit!! Joan, a proud direct descendant of a British Home Child, will describe their lives and the outcome.

BRITISH HOME CHILDREN

The Origin:
Driven by urban overcrowding and poverty in the Victorian era, charities like Dr. Barnardo’s and the Salvation Army relocated these children to rural Canada to supply cheap agricultural and domestic labor.

The Reality:
Only a small percentage were true orphans. Placed with rural Canadian families, some were treated well, but many others suffered severe neglect, physical abuse, and isolation.

The Aftermath:
The program was largely unregulated. Many Home Children served heroically in the World Wars, and it is estimated that about 10% of the Canadian population today has descended from these child migrants

Come and enjoy the beautiful shores of Tiny Township on Wednesday August 19th at the home of Alex and Tom Wright, rain date Thursday August 20th. Registration opens July 6th.

Bring your bathing suit if you would like to enjoy swimming in Georgian Bay. The bottom is sandy and the access is gradual up to over your head. Bring beach toys if you would like to kayak or paddle board. Alex will be leading a walk along the beach to the sand dunes park and lookout.

This is a pot luck event, bring your own beverages (unbreakable glass), lawn chair and savoury dish to share. Desserts will be provided. There is no cost for this event. If after registering you are unable to attend, please self-cancel or contact the event organizer.

Parking is limited - check the list of participants to arrange car pooling.

Gilles Corbeil's first camera job was in third grade, covering a sch

ool trip. His natural affinity for camera movement grew from there. He attended the Ryerson Film School in Toronto and shot documentaries in Europe during his summer breaks. He worked as a director of photography on several low-budget feature films, including "The Brain."

In 1992, Gilles bought his first Steadicam and devoted himself entirely to filmmaking. His main influences are Guillermo del Toro, Stanley Kubrick, David Lean, and John Frankenheimer. Credits include:

Collingwood Food Tour- International Foods (24 Sep 2026)

Join us for a walking food tour on Thursday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. We stop at 5 local places in downtown Collingwood and have a tasting at each spot. The tour will last around 3 hours and we will walk approximately 2 blocks.

The guide has historical knowledge of Collingwood as well as background on all the restaurants. The vast majority of the tour takes place outside; however, where space permits, we are invited inside the restaurant. Sometimes we are joined by the owners for a bit of a chat. Participants exchange stories about their favourite local restaurants and get to try new things on the menu of places they may have been to before. The spots are not revealed before the tour which makes it fun to wonder, "Where are we going next?"

The cost of the food tour is $XX.00. Registration will open later in the summer and there is a maximum of 30 participants (two groups of 15). If the event is full, join the wait list as there is a possibility that someone may need to cancel.
